Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect at my massage?

Remedial Massage Therapy is a hands on approach at assessing and treating soft tissue pain and dysfunction. Techniques that are commonly used include deep tissue, trigger point, myofascial release, cross fibre and different forms of stretching. Therapists can prescribe exercises and stretches. Some of our therapists here at On Point Massage Therapy are also trained to help you with your pain by using other techniques such as myofascial dry needling and myofascial cupping.

Are your therapists certified and qualified?

Each of our Massage therapists have completed minimum of a Diploma in Remedial Massage Therapy (HLT50307 or HLT50215). To maintain relevance within the industry and to stay accredited, all therapists must meet a set amount of credit points for Continued Education / Professional Development. Some of our therapists are also at university to continue their learning in courses such as a BSc in Occupational Therapy and a BHSc in Myotherapy.

Do you offer HICAPS?

Yes, we have a Hicaps machine which means you can claim a rebate through your private health insurance on the day, and only pay the gap remaining. All treatments provided can be covered through private health if you have chosen Remedial Massage Therapy as part of your health cover.

What payment options do you have?

We accept Eftpos, Visa, Mastercard and cash.

What if I arrive late?

To ensure that you can enjoy the full duration of your session and get the most out of your treatment, we recommend arriving 5-10 minutes early so that if you are a new patient of ours, we can make sure that we have all of your health history details on record before we get you on the table. If you arrive late however, which does happen as we are all human, we can get you on the table and treat as much as we can with the time we have left before our next booking as we are usually consecutively booked

How soon will I see results?

Depending on the bio-individuality of each person, result times can vary. Our aim as therapists is to have you get off the table at the end of your treatment feeling much better than before (which is usually the case!). Our patients will usually report of a wonderful sleep, and occasionally some muscle soreness. If you experience adverse effects or if you begin to experience more uncomfortable pain than before your treatment, please contact us ASAP so we can ensure that you receive the correct attention.

What is the difference between Relaxation and Remedial?

If you have particular muscle tension or chronic pain, a remedial massage may be the best option for you. Your remedial massage therapist will assess where you need treatment and what may be causing your pain. While both use flow to string techniques from one to the next, Swedish is more about relaxation rather than predominantly pain relief.

Will I need repeat treatments?

Depending on what you are presenting us with, you may need repeat treatments. This will be discussed and planned with you, always keeping your needs and goals in mind. Our job as therapists is to facilitate your own bodies ability to heal so you don’t need to keep on visiting. Depending on the nature of your lifestyle, the amount of returns you require can vary.

Do I have to take my clothes off?

Above all, we want you to be comfortable as this is your time. Usual practice is to have you in your underwear and we keep you covered with a towel/s at all times during the massage. If you prefer to remain fully clothed that is absolutely no problem and we will work around that.

What is your Cancellation Policy?

We charge a cancellation fee of 50% of appointment for less than 24 hours’ notice of the scheduled appointment and the FULL fee of the therapy session for a ‘no show’ or ‘no notice’ of cancellation of the scheduled appointment.
